37signals retiring OpenID

This is a shame. I thought OpenID would be a great way to standardise my logins to different websites. It means I can have one userid and password, which I control, and authenticate to anywhere. Unfortunately the consensus seems to be that it's all too complicated to implement. 37signals runs the popular Basecamp project management tool.
